when i mention the word “maths” some adjectives will come to mind, boring, difficult and complicated. but i think maths is very interesting. it is used almost everywhere in our life and also related to art and music.

we all know one geometrical concept, the golden section. it's very important in painting, sculpture and architecture, such as the parthenon in athens and the venus de milo. in nature a little pentagonal flower has its golden section. it looks beautiful.

what about its connection with music? lets take a look at a straight and tight string. pluck it, and then halve its length, then pluck it again. the sound we hear is the same note but a higher frequency. the greek mathematician pythagoras discovered this law and it developed into the musical scale we know today.

another example is from the famous composer, bach. when we listen to his music in “well-tempered clavier”, we find the notes are always getting higher .but amazingly, in the end, it comes back to the initial height. why is it? that's why bach was great! it's a very interesting maths problem. we call it a paradox.

these days we learn maths at school. the only purpose is to get a high mark. but i personally think that those with curious and creative minds will open the door to the world of maths. just as galileo said, “mathematics is the alphabet with which god has written the universe”. maths, in my eyes, is a fascinating subject that needs our passion and imagination. in the end i hope you love this boundless treasure and enjoy the magical world of maths!

数学和音乐又有什么联系呢?让我们来看看着根紧绷的线。拨动一下，然后抓住绳子的.二分之一处，再拨一下，就会听到在不同高度的同一个音。毕达哥拉斯发现了这一点。于是它逐渐发展成今天的音阶。

另一个例子是关于大作曲家巴赫的，如果我们仔细聆听他《平均律钢琴曲集》中的旋律，就会发现音高总是在慢慢上升。但出乎意料的是，在乐曲的结尾，它却回到了原来的高度。这是为什么呢?这大概就是巴赫的伟大之处了。其实，它是一个非常有趣的数学问题，我们把它叫做“数学悖论”.

如今我们在学校里学习数学，只是为了应付考试。但我个人认为，打开数学之门的，是那些有好奇心和创新精神的人们。就像伽利略所说的：数学是上帝用来记载宇宙的字母表。数学在我眼中是一门美妙的学科，它需要我们的激情与想像力。最后，我希望大家也能喜欢这宝藏，爱这神奇的数学王国。

stepping into the new century environment pollution has become more serious than ever since. there are different kinds of pollution. such as water pollution air pollution and noise pollution and so on. it seems that we live on a planet which is full of pollution. where all these pollution comes from? to a large extend the environmental destruction is the heavy price that we pay for the rapid development of economy and the growing population. in order to have more fuel people cut down trees and dig more corals. but the growing needs for energy are hardly to meet. countless private cars on the street the gas stations are short of gasoline even the government has raise the price so many times in order to control the needs of gasoline but it’s still not working. overusing the natural resources has already affected the ecological balance. however the factories still release the toxic air into the sky and the polluted water into the rivers. people still lack of the conscious of protecting the environment. i think it’s time for all of us to do something.

the government should put forward some more strict laws to prevent the environment from being further polluted. and they should let people know more about the importance of environment protection. and we should find the balance between the economic growth and environmental protection. plant more trees in the deserts and stop cutting down the forest. forbid the factories to pour the waste water into the rivers directly. encourage people to use public transportations to work. both government and ordinary people should join hands together to make our home clean and fresh again. only in this way our earth could be a better place to live in.

we are young. “how to spend the youth?” it is a meaningful question. to answer it first i have to ask “what do you understand by the word youth?” youth is not a time of life it’s a state of mind. it’s not a matter of rosy cheeks red lips or supple knees. it’s the matter of the will. it’s the freshness of the deep spring of life.

a poet said “to see a world in a grain of sand and a heaven in a wild flower hold infinity in the palm of your hand and eternity in an hour. several days ago i had a chance to listen to a lecture. i learnt a lot there. i’d like to share it with all of you. let’s show our right palms. we can see three lines that show how our love.career and life is. i have a short line of life. what about yours? i wondered whether we could see our future in this way. well let’s make a fist. where is our future? where is our love career and life? tell me.yeah it is in our hands. it is held in ourselves.

we all want the future to be better than the past. but the future can go better itself. don’t cry because it is over smile because it happened. from the past we’ve learnt that the life is tough but we are tougher. we’ve learnt that we can’t choose how we feel but we can choose what about it. failure doesn’t mean you don’t have it it does mean you should do it in a different way. failure doesn’t mean you should give up it does mean you must try harder.

as what i said at the beginning “we are reading the first verse of the first chapter of a book whose pages are infinite”. the past has gone. nothing we do will change it. but the future is in front of us. believe that what we give to the world the world will give to us. and from today on let’s be the owners of ourselves and speak out “we are the world we are the future.”

of course, success brings confidence and victory. but, life is not always easy and comfortable. there are more difficulties than eases in the real life. it is likely that we have to face some failures ahead. therefore, those who learn how to deal and endure failures will taste their success eventually.
